Dr. Masa Sasagawa, ND

Board of Directors, Neuro Think Tank
Dr. Sasagawa is the Director of Research Laboratories at Bastyr University and an Assistant Research Scientist at the Bastyr Research Institute.  He is also  an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Counseling and Health Psychology.  Dr. Masa received his Doctor in Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University in 2003.  He went on to complete his Postdoctoral research fellowship from 2004-2007.

Additionally, Dr. Masa teaches Applied Statistical Analysis, Biostatistics, Introduction to Statistics, and Laboratory Research Methods.

His ongoing and recently completed research includes:

Fermented soy supplementation to improve vitality for cachectic patients
BESO Biological Research is interested in evaluating the effect of consuming a fermented soy product by people suffering with cachexia. The first task for this research was to develop the protocol and budget necessary for scientific review and the intuitional review board application. The funding company is reviewing the protocol, and interested in collaborating with hospice agencies. 

Development of a Social Responsibility Scale
Social responsibility may be measured by actions, attitudes or thoughts. This instrument may help assessing issues addressed by the Center for Social Justice & Diversity as Dr. Sasagawa is a part of the Committee for Evaluation & Accountability. To standardize a psychometric instrument, careful planning and statistical analyses are required.

U19 PSK study
With collaboration of the University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson and Kureha Corporation, the NCCAM funded Bastyr University to investigate the effect of a mushroom product for the conjunctive treatment of cancer. For more detail, please see www.clinicaltrials.gov. 

The role of naturopathic primary care physician in Washington Medicaid system
Dr. Sasagawa is interested in primary care in a community health setting actively taking patients on Washington Apple Health (Medicaid). He would like to investigate the financial sustainability of primary care naturopathic physicians that take Medicaid patients.
